I’m tellin’ ya, I got a question that’s been buggin’ me for years — and nobody on the internet seems to talk about it. Maybe they banned it? Or maybe they just don’t respect an old guy’s opinion… which, come to think of it, is nothing new.
Why does ESPN have to spoil football scores? And I mean every network — pro, college, you name it. You’re watching’ one game, minding’ your own business, and BOOM — the other game’s highlights jump out at ya like a jack-in-the-box. I have a DVR, I have streaming, I even binoculars if it’ll help me see the game better — and they ruin it! I tell ya, it’s like paying for a ticket to a movie… except the only surprise plot-twist is that they tell ya how it ends.
And it ain’t just annoying — it messes with the whole experience! Doesn’t it affect ratings? Ads? I wouldn’t know, I can’t even get to a commercial break without a sports-bot screaming the score in my face.
Now, I’ve learned a thing or two in my time: when smart people in high places do dumb things… trust me, they ain’t dumb. No sir. They’re usually running a scam and the dumb act is just the cover story. So, what’s the real reason the networks ruin football for us poor, loyal fans? And why is it like asking about UFOs when you try to Google it — poof! Nothing.
Here’s one possibility: maybe the networks know the average fan only has so many hours in ‘em before they tune out; if a game’s getting’ boring, people switch off entirely. But if they tease another, “more exciting” game… BOOM! You’re channel surfing like a gerbil on a treadmill. Networks get ya to keep watching’, advertisers get ya to keep buying stuff, and the NFL or NCAA gets their pound of flesh.
So the next time ABC promotes a game that’s already happening on ESPN, don’t blame them — blame the contracts. Or blame me, I dunno, I’m just an old guy complaining. Either way, it ruins the football experience for folks who actually want to watch a game without the spoilers jumping out like a deer on the highway!
Don’t ban me, Google — I’m just asking’ questions here.
